The musicians and song writers on the show have their own entire world because the Cotton Club is the world where the majority of drama occurs in every episode. But it has its issues because it's very heavily laced with music scores. The Cotton Club has 6 floors of music with a great number of scores that draw from jazz, hip hop, rap, blues, and New Age ambient music, using a wide range of orchestral and electronic instruments.

Our collaboration system is an enterprise collaboration platform that combines the power of spotting sessions, musical content creation, and real-time communications. The music department can quickly connect with our studio and the resources at our studio when they need to get a music score done. The system helps break down organizational silos with easier collaboration for all musicians and geographies.

We have 3 distinct approaches to handling the music for the series

1 Our musicians usually enter the creative process towards the end of filming of an episode, around the same time as the film is being edited. Before the editing is complete, he or she collaborrates with the director or producer online about what sort of music is required for the film in terms of style and tone. The director and composer will watch the entire episode online, taking note of which scenes require original music according to time code. During this process the composer will take precise timing notes so that he or she knows how long each cue needs to last, where it begins, where it ends, and of particular moments during a scene with which the music may need to coincide.

2 Many times in this show a composer will be on hand from another city during the entire film shoot because of the live stage performances in the club.

3 In some circumstances, a musician will be asked to write music based on his or her impressions of the script or storyboards, without seeing the film itself, and is given more freedom to create music without the need to adhere to specific cue lengths or mirror the emotional arc of a particular scene. This approach is usually taken by a director who does not wish to have the music comment specifically on a particular scene or nuance of a film, and which can instead be inserted into the film at any point the director wishes during the editing process.

Our musical talents' creations are never accidentally deleted along with all the other unsolicited submissions because each artist has a special code that our email system uses. If the music is from a musical artist on the show, it automatically places the music into an inbox assigned to that specific artist at our studio.
